"He didn't become suspicious until she bought him a fishing pole."
by RMAF

Mr. Mat Fat Cat was the town's laziest cat. Every day he leisured all around the town, sitting here and there and everywhere.  His girlfriend, "Kitty", had a plan for Mat to get some exercise. But Mat hated exercise and avoided it whenever possible.

He didn't become suspicious until she bought him a fishing pole and suggested they spend the day by the creek, hiking up to the best fishing spot.

She loved Mat Fat Cat and wanted to keep him around a while longer so they could purr  some more together.

"Lisa Ann was alone in the house when she heard it."
by BG

Lisa Ann was alone in the house when she heard it. She reacted quickly, grabbed her hat and overcoat, called for Seymour and whistled for Frankie to find his saddle and get over to the front door.  She threw open the door, Seymour perched on her shoulder. They jumped on Frankie and then flew up the mountain. As they approached the summit Frankie slowed and touched down. Lisa Ann dismounted, turned and looked down at the house.

"Whew!" she exclaimed, "That was close."

They were in there, ripping the place apart. It was sad to see her little place destroyed, but she would have to rebuild anyway. Blast it all, she thought. She hated those flying monkeys. Her cousin was really as mean as she had been told. It was not her fault that Seymour preferred to live with her and ran away from their home to get away from her cousin.

They would end up moving again and again to keep Seymour safe. Nothing would stop her cousin from searching for them. Maybe a houseboat this time. It's worth a try to be surrounded by water. After all, it's the only thing that would keep that Wicked Witch of the West away.

"They wanted the new store to be a Trader Joes but ended up with Vons."
by NC

They saw the old bicycle embedded in the tree on the side of the road. The tree had grown up around it. They drove down the road and saw the old miner's cabin abandoned with junk of tin cans at least three feet deep. It was a beautiful spot though; a clear creek meandered across the property. They had just been down to the little down of Pineheart and went shopping at the new Vons store. Although most of the people living around here were loggers a few worked from home and were quite hoping to get a Trader Joes, distributing gourmet food and imported goodies. But only the Vons representative picked up the spot of the Old Grocer grocery store.

"It came down from the Moon, she thought nervously, as she watched the object descend into her front yard."
by GS

Ingrid and Heloise had been working at the Pink House for several months, serving 6 to 8 clients a night. They had to maintain their images as pure little girls for the targeted clientele so were very careful to keep their clothes clean and spotless as specified by the owner, Donald Trump.

One evening as they awaited the first client, Ingrid noticed something strange descending slowing from the sky. It came down from the Moon, she thought nervously, as she watched the object descend into her front yard.

After some hesitation, Heloise went to discover that a large crow, about ten times the usual size, was unfolding its wings. Since there were no rules about pet birds, the girls decided to adopt it and have it wait for new clients with them. It was a big success as word got around of its place at the Pink House.

She fantasized about taking a luxurious cruise around the world
By CC

Lila fantasized about a lot of things. Ricardo was more level headed. He spent his time working out complex math problems in his head. It seemed more useful to him, keeping his mind sharp instead of fuzzy. Not Lila. She fantasized about taking a luxurious cruise around the world! That was pretty stupid. She knew they weren’t going anywhere. But she kept on dreaming.

Finally he had enough. “Lila, he said, have you gone mad? Have you lost touch with reality?”  She was silent. “I could say we don’t have the money, but that would be a silly excuse.”

Lila looked forward stoically. She was bored, that was the trouble. “I’m tired of this,” she said at last. Ricardo figuratively shrugged his shoulder, since that’s all he had pulled out of the earth, which was a darn sight better than Lila’s predicament.

They both frowned at their situation. It didn’t help. Ricardo returned to his cogitation on the Yang-Mills Existence and Mass Gap problem. Lila resumed her dream of taking a Seven Seas Around the World Cruise.

"They felt like kids in a candy store."
by AD

Caressa had finally achieved her dream of becoming a model and fashion designer and was thrilled at her opportunity to work on the cover photo of next month's issue of Cosmopolitan. The theme they wanted her to go with was nature, since new cinema and news were all focused on forest and the planet.

Caressa didn't want to just do natural makeup and a green dress with some flower accessories. No, she wanted to do much better. She took her hairdresser into some nearby woods to look for leaves and branches to use. They felt like kids in a candy store. They found what they needed from the area and went back to get ready for the photoshoot. Caressa felt very proud of herself.

When he was completely sure, Luke lit the signal fire.”
By RC

Luke had always wanted to create what he called “living art,” like those world famous artists, who would drape tall buildings and line up people for miles, and all that. Luke was also a lover of all things Greek, and he visualized himself as a Greek warrior, or hunter type. But Luke didn’t want to do something totally Greek; he liked the little ironies, the contrasts that no one expected, in art.

So, he thought and thought, and finally he had an idea. He gathered everything he needed to a location atop a tall building in downtown New York. He took it all up as far as he could go on the elevator and then carted the rest to the top. There was an outer ledge which was just right. On the very top of the building he set up wood and doused it with gasoline. He wasn’t worried about starting a fire, because the top was all concrete. This would be his signal fire.

Then, on the ledge, he set up the statuary he had created. This would be the most unique example of “living art” New York had ever seen, he thought. When he was completely sure, Luke lit the signal fire. Then he waited.

The results were not exactly what he had anticipated, however. First came the fire engines, and the men running up all those flights of steps. Then came the police and the counselors, because they were all sure that here was a disconsolate soul who would surely plunge to his death at any moment.

“Can’t they see what this is?” Luke mumbled, exasperated. But he continued to stand there, holding the pose. He wouldn’t budge or speak, and so they eventually picked him up, pedestal and all, and hauled him away. Even in Jail, Luke still maintained his pose. “Surely, they will get it sometime,” he thought, hopefully.

"At the end of the day they had to go with Plan B."
by KC

Nora swept into the ICU just as her life-long friend was covered by the sheet.

The charge nurse smiled and said "Elena passed about ten minutes ago. It was very peacefull, no pain at all."

Nora stepped back and pressed the back of her hand to her mouth. She looked at the figure, in an almost regal repose.

"We were nurses, too, you know." Nora said. "During the war."

The charge nurse pulled an old photo album from a small case that sat on a side chair.

"Elena wanted me to give you this. She said something quite odd: At the end of the day, they had to go with Plan B."

Nora smiled.

"Plan B."  Nora opened the book.
